Sprat’s Head!

Just like the Crows Foot from earlier in the Sampler – the Sprats head is another tailoring stitch. It works perfectly in hand embroidery as a decorative stitch and looks really impressive when complete.
If you have purchased the Pre Printed Fabric Panel or have tranferred the Template to your fabric – scroll down to the ‘Start Stitching’ section to get started straight away.
Where to stitch…
On the lower right quarter of your circle – there is a space below the battlement filling which will work perfectly.
Draw a line across and down as in the photo…

Start Stitching…
I used a Perle thread size 8 for a quicker fill…
- 1: bring the thread through at the lower left of the triangle on line 1.
- 2: take the thread to the top of the triangle and back through the fabric a tiny bit in on line 2.
- 3: come back through on the top of line 1.
- 4: then take the thread down to the bottom right of the triangle and back in again.
As you can see in the second photo – the thread has outlined the triangle edge with a little cross over at the very tip.

Repeat the same stitch process to fill the triangle, making each of the stitches next to the previous one to fill the shape.

As you continue, you will see a lovely pattern forming from the top down as the thread crosses over each other.

Keep going until the stitches cross over for the last time when you reach the bottom edge of the triangle.

All you need to do then is continue with straight stitches down each side to fill the triangle and complete the stitching.

Your Sprat’s Head is complete!

Your sampler should be of full with all these fabulous stitches by now…

Happy Stitching!
