Double Buttonhole

Where to stitch…
There aren’t many places left on the sampler – we only have 1 quarter of the circle (top left) that is not completely filled so this is obviously where we are going to be stitching!
Draw a horizontal line just up from the couching stitch line and then another one – 1cm above this…

Start Stitching…
Stitching from right to left – bring the thread up on the lower line (1)
Take the thread across and up – a stitch length both ways & insert at (2). Bring the needle up at (3) back on the line.

With the thread looped around the outside of the needle, pull the thread through at (3), this forms the ‘L’ shape which is the first stitch complete.
Continue along in this way completing the buttonhole stitch. To create different effects you can vary the length of the stitches, make the gaps smaller or bigger…

To create the double buttonhole – you are doing the exact same stitch on the line above so that the vertical stitches face each other…
My vertical stitches were not as straight as they could have been but you get the idea!

and now for the easy peasy second stitch for this week…
Point Russe Stitch
This is a really simple stitch which creates a nice fan shape.
Draw 2 lines – 1 cm apart above the double buttonhole…

To create the Point Russe Stitch – stitch the centre vertical stitch first between the 2 lines, next stitch the outermost shorter straight stitches to create the size and shape and then fill in the remaining 2 straight stitches to complete the fan effect.

Complete several of these along the line for practice…

And that’s the 2 stitches for this week. The last couple of stitches will be on the blog tomorrow which will see the end of the Stitch Fun sampler!
Happy Stitching!
