Sit Back, Relax and Enjoy the moment.
We all seem to be busy busy busy these days so it’s more important than ever to think about yourself now and again and figure out a way to relax.
If you can find something that allows you to take a moment to yourself and switch off from the kids bickering, dog barking or neighbours banging! it can make all the difference to your state of mind and ability to cope with life and what it decides to throw at you next – good or bad!
For me personally, I am so glad I found hand embroidery. I suffer from Fibromyalgia and it is my way of dealing with pain on a daily basis and it truly does work. It also saves my sanity during the football season when my husband likes to watch a game!
Here’s 10 reasons why I find it helps my wellbeing and I truly believe it can help yours as well…

Hand Embroidery Relaxes your mind and body
Simple, repetative designs can be incredibly soothing.
Just pick up your needle and thread anywhere, anytime and stitch away.
Add in your favourite movie and a glass of wine and what could be more relaxing than that!
One of my all time favourite books for simply just browsing through in awe of the beautiful designs is Garden stitch Life. You don’t need to be actually stitching for hand embroidery to take you to a nice calm place – books on the subject can do that too!
Hand Embroidery makes you smile
There are an abundance of designs you can choose to stitch so no matter what you enjoy, you can find something to get you smiling.
Those final stitches when you see it all coming together give a sense of accomplishment you can’t help but smile about.
Anybody can Stitch!
You don’t need to be a great artist, amazing seamstress, or particularly creative to be able to stitch up a fabulous piece of art that you will be really proud of.
You also don’t need many materials to get started – fabric, thread, scissors and a needle and away you go.
There are so many wonderful designs out there for beginners through to advanced stitchers.
Once you start you find yourself learning more each time and getting better and better as you go along.
Hand Embroidery allows you to express yourself
If you have something to say – you can say it with embroidery!
From the nice to the not so nice you can say what you feel and have it hanging on your wall for all to admire!
A great inexpensive form of therapy if ever there was one!
It’s comforting and calming and can help you diet as well!
Get comfy and cozy on your favourite chair with some music.
Watch your favourite TV and stitch – you will be calm in no time!
Plus your fingers are busy stitching so you can’t be busy snacking!
Your Confidence will grow
No matter how good you are, you will always learn and improve as your embroidery journey develops.
You will be able to see the improvement as you look back at what you have made and your confidence will soar!
A sense of achievement like no other!
Creating something from beginning to end and seeing it develop in to a creative and lovely piece of art is such an achievement.
No matter who you are or how many projects you make there is always this great sense of achievement and buzz when you finally complete what you set out to do.
You look at the world differently
Once you have been embroidering for a while, you begin to see the world around you in stitches!
Embroidery projects and inspiration are everywhere!
If you aren’t at this point yet – just wait – you will be!
I took a walk near my home not too long ago and you can see the pictures I took here. The lovely countryside was full of gorgeous colours and life.
This simple walk created my pattern which was called Wildflowers and Rabbits. So look around you and see what stitches you can find!
It’s an addiction that’s not bad for you!
Addictions are generally not good for you (unless it’s chocolate and then I beg to differ!)
My addiction to Embroidery has so far not caused me any harm!
It takes up my time, invades my thoughts, spends my money but I swear – its good for me and could be for you too! (Don’t tell my husband about the money part!)
It makes you Happy!
Go on – give it a try!
If you have not discovered the delights of hand embroidery yet – give it a go and you will be glad you did.
