It’s the Penultimate week! We are 9 weeks in to this SAL and there are only 2 more areas for you to stitch on your Wonderful Life Pattern. This week it’s time for the…

Apple Tree and Rabbit

Everything here is nice and simple to stitch and seeing the red apples pop up all over the place is incredibly fun! So, let’s start with the Apple Tree…

You will need the Following Colours:

#632, #839, #350, #3362, #702

Use 2 strands throughout.

The Tree Trunk…

For your tree trunk you can either stitch it in Brick stitch like mine or choose stem stitch or split stitch – all of these would work work equally as well.

#632: Brick Stitch

Start at the base of the tree working your way upwards and branch off into the individual branches in a way that blends rather thn looks like you have gone off at an odd angle.

The Leaves…

The leaves are all stitched in Fishbone stitch in 2 different colours – alternate the colours around the tree to give a bit of variety.

  • #702: Fishbone Stitch
  • #3362: Fishbone Stitch

You have already stitched fishbone stitch in week 2 but if you need a refresh take a look here.

The Apples…

#350: Satin stitch. To maintain a nice circular shape remember to go around the outline of each apple in back stitch before filling in with the satin.

#839: stitch a tiny little stem on each apple to complete.

Now for the Rabbit…

You might want to choose your own colours for the rabbit but if not here’s what I chose…

##3782, #839, #746, #310

The whole body and head are stitched in long and short stitch and the ears are satin stitched.

I started with the #3782 in the centre of the body and worked my way up filling in the rear of the rabbit before coming back and filling in the front and the head.

I decided to add in the #839 on the rabbits chest and back leg as well as a few specks over the body to just create a bit of texture.

Add in some french knots for the tail with #746 and then with #310 he needs a french knot for the eye as well as a tiny little nose. I also stitched a line to separate the 2 back legs.

Those last few details…

As you can see in the full picture there are a 3 little bits of greenery on the bottom edge – these are #3362: chain stitch.

The little flower is exactly the same as those you stitched on the duck pond in week 6: #34 chain stitch flower, #3362 straight stitch leaves and stem.

That’s your Apple Tree and Rabbit all complete – well done for getting this far and I can’t wait to see the progress as people get to this point.

Make sure you show off your lovely stitching on the Happy Stitching FB Group or send me some pics and I’ll post them here.

Don’t forget you can also share your stitching on Instagram with #stitchdoodlesembroidery.

See you next week for the very last tutorial in this series!

Happy Stitching!
