Week 5 and we are half way through. This week is a nice simple block but it adds a lot of charm to the overall design…

Sunflowers

You will need the following colours…

Use 2 strands throughout

#3820, #839, #702, #3345

Using the following photo as a guide, start by stitching the stems in back stitch and the leaves in Satin Stitch.

For the flower petals, stitch Chain stitch around the circle – to create a more pointy petal rather than rounded – elongate the stitch slightly at the tip to pull it up as you secure it down.

NOTE: The yellow petals are 3820 not 3345!

Carry on stitching the stems and leaves and the the flower tops like so…

#839/2 strands – Stitch French Knots for the flower centres.

It is easier to create a circle by stitching the knots on the outer edge of the yellow chain stitch first (like in the top right flower) and then fill the centre in.

Stitch the French Knots nice and close together so they fill all the space.

To finish… #702:

Straight stitch the 3 lines in between the flowers for the grass.

And thats week 5 all done. Nice and simple to give you a bit of a breather before we tackle some of the more involved parts of the pattern.

Make sure you show off your lovely stitching on the Happy Stitching FB Group or send me some pics and I’ll post them here.

Don’t forget you can also share your stitching on Instagram with #stitchdoodlesembroidery.

Happy Stitching!

  1. So this is my fifth year of being a Wonderful Life SALter and I love it. It is a way for me to give back to the world and to continue on with the journey of my life. I have a job in marketing and I love it, but one thing that always bugs me is how I can always be so grateful. I am grateful for all that I have, but sometimes I am not sure that I can ever feel it enough to let go of the little things that drag me down. When I feel the sting of missing out on these things that make life great, I know that I can count on Wonderful Life SALters to brighten up my day for me.
