Wow – it’s the final installment of the Stitch A Long pattern – A Wonderful Life! This has been such a fun journey and I have loved every minute, especially with so many joining in and sharing progress.

The pattern tutorials will be available on the blog for the forseeable future so many more people can enjoy the process as well.

Week 10’s block is the…

Bees and Hive

This is a fun stitch as there a few different elements which are all simple so it will be a fun end to a fun pattern!

As there are so many different colours – I’ll list the ones you need as we tackle each of the different bits! Starting with…

The Bee hive…

Use 2 strands throughout. You will need: #738, #782

#738: Brick stitch each of the sections of the hive, take care on the top section to keep the circle entrance empty.

#782: Using 1 strand – couch lines of 2 strands across the sections to separate them and straight stitch the edges on either side.

Still with #782: straight stitch the feet of the hive and brick stitch the roof.

Purple Bush…

Use 2 strands throughout. You will need: #3345, #632, #550

Flowers and stems…

Use 2 strands throughout. You will need: #34, #702, #316

  • #702: Stem stitch the stems and satin Stitch the leaves.
  • #34: chain Stitch the Flowers (also known as lazy daisy stitch)
  • #316: Nice chunky French Knot in the centre of each flower.

The Bees…

  • For the body – use 2 strands throughout, you will need: #3820, #310.
  • For the Wings – use 1 strand: #746.

Stitch the wings first by Trellis stitching the inner area (same as you did for the seed holder on the bird table) and then split stitch (with tiny stitches!) the outer curve of the wing.

Next stitch the Bees body: Satin stitch the yellow and black stripes, satin stitch the bees head and then stitch 2 small antennae.

Your Bees and hive are complete which marks the end of the Wonderful Life Pattern.
