Welcome to the ‘WinterBerry Cottage’ Stitch A Long

This Stitch A Long is taking place for 10 weeks on the Stitchdoodles blog – Starting Wednesday 15th February 2023 and finishing on Wednesday 19th April 2023.

Each Wednesday during the SAL – a new tutorial will be published on the blog with all the information you need to complete a part of the WinterBerry Cottage Pattern.

If you are not familiar with a Stitchdoodles SAL and this is all new to you and you would like to join in, please go to this page to get all the information.

This week we are stitching the trees and baskets. Use 2 strands throughout unless stated otherwise…

Triangular Trees

You will need the following colours…

#3809, #926, #3756, #3021

There are 2 of these on the design – stitch both in the same way.

Using the photos below as a guide, stitch as follows…
1. #926: Start at the top of the tree and stitch continuous fly stitch down towards the base filling in the inner triangle shape.
2. #3756: Back stitch up each side.
3. #3809: Stem stitch all around the outer edge.

#3021: Satin stitch the trunk.

Baskets

You will need the following colours…

#3834, #3042, #816, #3809, #934

There are 2 of these on the design – stitch both in the same way.

Stitching the berries:

#816: Satin stitch

Stitching the basket:

This is done in trellis stitch – there are 2 layers of trellis, use the diagram below to help if you have not done this before. Stitch the trellis design inside the basket before outlining to finish.

  1. #3834: stitch long diagonal stitches across the basket width.
  2. #3834: do the same as in step 1 but in the opposite direction to form the trellis design.

This is the first trellis layer complete.

3. to stitch the second layer of trellis, change to colour #3042: stitch the first set of diagonal stitches across the width of the basket next to (not on top of) the 1 layer and do the same in the opposite direction to complete the second layer.

Usually with Trellis stitch you anchor down the stitches on the cross sections but with this being such a small area it looked better without this extra detail.

To finish, #3834: Long stitch the sides, top and base. Finish the base with satin stitch lengthways to fill.

To complete the basket:

#934: Fishbone stitch leaves
#3809: long stitch the outer lines
#936 (1 strand): seed stitch around the berries.

Week 5 is complete.

Make sure you show off your wonderful stitching in the Happy Stitching FB Group or on Instagram with #stitchdoodlesembroidery.
