WinterBerry Cottage – Week 10

This Stitch A Long has been taking place for 10 weeks on the Stitchdoodles blog – Starting Wednesday 15th February 2023 and finishing on Wednesday 19th April 2023.

Welcome to Week 10 – the last week of this SAL!

There is just the wonderful border stitching to be done this week to give a fabulous finish to your traditional sampler design.

There are 2 borders – the inner border and then the outer border. Use 2 strands throughout unless stated otherwise.

Stitching the Inner Border…

You will need the following colours… #452, #3809

#452: Back stitch along the 2 straight lines. Keep your stitches evenly sized and small.
#3809: Chain stitch inbetween the 2 lines all the way around.

Stitching the Outer border…

You will need the following colour… #3809

The entire outer border is stitched in 2 strands and stitched in heavy chain stitch. This gives a really nice thick line. Of course, there are a variety of stitches that suit themselves really well to a border and of course you can choose to stitch this however you would like.

To stitch heavy chain stitch there is a really helpful tutorial on the RSN Stitch Bank – it is shown in step by step photos as well as a video.

Heavy Chain Stitch

Once you get into the rhythm it is a really nice stitch to do and the wonderful thick line it produces really gives a nice texture and finish to a design such as this.
