Week 10!

Time to complete your gorgeous pattern by stitching…

The Robin

You will need the following colours…

For the Bird, #433, #347, #3866, #3021, #310

For the Flower, #730, #816, #934, #986, #834, #3866, #3822

Use 2 strands throughout unless stated otherwise.

Start by Stitching the Foliage…

There are 5 different foliage elements that surround the flower. In the following photo you can see how to stitch 3 of them…

  • #834 – Chain stitch leaves, the stem is split stitched.
  • #986 – Continuous fly stitch for the ferns – you can do just a few continuous fly stitch to create the main leaf and then fill in the gaps between the fly stitch with straight stitch so they look more filled out.
  • #934 – Fishbone stitch (5 leaves in total) and then use just 1 strand of #730 to fly stitch the veins from the tip to the base of each leaf.

Stitching the remaining foliage…

Use the following colour & stitch guide to complete the berries and leaves.

Stitching the flower…

  • #3866: Back stitch around the flower edge before filling in each curved area with Satin stitch.
  • #3822: Straight stitch the lines by coming up & splitting through the satin stitch halfway into the petal and take it down in the centre.
  • #3822: Finish the centre of the flower with French Knots.

Stitching the Robin…

  • #433: Split stitch the Wing & Head.
  • #347: Split Stitch the red breast.
  • #3866: Split stitch under the wing.
  • #433: Back stitch around top curve of wing.
  • #433: Long Chain stitch the tail – I did about 5 stitches in total and they overlapped on the base of the tail to create the fanned out shape.
  • #3021: Satin Stitch the legs.
  • #310: Straight stitch beak & French Knot for the eye.

Complete the block by Back Stitching the outer edge in #3752 and then your beautiful Robin is complete…
