This Stitch A Long is taking place for 9 weeks on the blog and every Wednesday from now until the 7th July, there will be a new tutorial on the blog with all the information you need to complete a part of the Summer Splendour Pattern.

If this is all new to you and you would like to join in, please go to this page to get all the information.

Welcome to Week 6!

This week will have you stitching some yummy strawberries and vibrant poppies. When I was stitching this pattern originally in the bitter cold I could never have imagined summer would have come so early here in the UK and it seems like the perfect time to be stitching these now!

Let’s start with the…

Strawberries…

You will need the following colours…

#907, #347, #712, #743

Use 2 strands throughout unless otherwise stated.

Colour and Stitch Guide…

  • Start by stitching the greenery in #907 using the above stitch guide. For the leaves – fly stitch down the leaf from top to base before back stitching the outer edge.
  • There are 4 straight stitches between the petals of the flowers – use 1 strand for these…

For the strawberries: #347: Back stitch the outer edge first and then brick stitch to fill.
The tiny strawberries can just be straight stitched.
For the seeds: #712 (1 strand) – straight stitch over the top randomly.

#712: Chain stitch (or lazy daisy) the petals for the flowers before completing with a french knot in #743 to finish.

The outside edge of the whole block was back stitched in #743.

We have another one this week but just remember there is no rush – take as long as you like!

Poppies

You will need the following colours…

#347, #471, #310

Use 2 strands throughout unless otherwise stated.

Start by stitching the Stems and Leaves…

#471: Long & Short stitch the leaves of the poppies. Start at the base and work your way upwards curving outwards to fill the spikes of the leaves as you go.

Arrows show direction of stitching…

#471: Split stitch the stems

Stitching the Poppy petals…

#347: Back stitch around each of the individual petals and fill each one in individually with Satin Stitch.

#310 (1 strand): Back stitch the outside edge of each petal – keep the stitches small in order to maintain a smooth line as well as curves.

Final Details for the block…

  • #347: Satin stitch the unopened buds.
  • #310 (1strand): Satin stitch the flower centre and the 3 small straight stitches on the left bud.

#160: Back stitch the outer edge of the whole block.

Your Beautiful Strawberries and Poppies are now complete…

So, I realise this week may be a bit challenging as it uses long and short stitch as well as Satin which I know can both be a bit tricky especially if this is kind of new to you. It’s all a learning curve though so don’t worry about perfection – give it your best go and be happy with your completed stitching.

Make sure you show off your lovely stitching on the Happy Stitching FB Group or send me some pics and I’ll post them here.

Don’t forget you can also share your stitching on Instagram with #stitchdoodlesembroidery.

Happy Stitching!
