This Stitch A Long is taking place for 9 weeks on the blog and every Wednesday from now until the 7th July, there will be a new tutorial on the blog with all the information you need to complete a part of the Summer Splendour Pattern.

If this is all new to you and you would like to join in, please go to this page to get all the information.

Welcome to Week 2 of the Summer Splendour Pattern.

Another 2 blocks to complete and these are fun ones…

The Sea Scene…

You will need the following colours…

#519, #3765, #3810, #712, #743, #223

Use 2 strands throughout unless otherwise stated.

Start with the Waves…

All the waves are stitched with Split stitch. Don’t pull the stitches too tight as this will cause the block to distort by pulling it in on the sides.

Row 1: #3765

Row 2: Stitch 3/4 of the row in #3810 and then the last quarter in #712. With #712 make the peaks of the waves curve upwards and be a little bit less neat so they seem choppy.

Stitching the details…

Using the diagram below as a guide stitch the following…

  • #519: Satin stitch the fish bodies and then with 1 strand of #712, stitch a french knot for each eye, a fly stitch for each fin and 2 straight diagonal stitches on each tail fin.
  • #223: Split stitch the bird wings, Satin stitch the Bird Body and then with 1 strand of #712 stitch 2 straight stitches on each wing at the body side.
  • #743: Satin stitch the sun and then straight stitch the rays.

To complete the block – #743: Back Stitch the block outline.

The Ice Cream

You will need the following colours…

#3772, #738, #839, #3609, #742, #553, #712

Use 2 strands throughout unless otherwise stated.

Start with the Cones…

  1. #3772 (1 strand): straight stitch across diagonally from left to right in a downward direction.
  2. #3772 (1 strand): straight stitch across diagonally from left to right in an upward direction. This creates the criss cross effect. Anchor the cross sections down with a tiny vertical stitch.
  3. #738 (2 strands): straight stitch across diagonally from left to right in a downward direction, inbetween the previous lines.
  4. #738 (2 strands): straight stitch across diagonally from left to right in an upward direction, inbetween the previous lines.

Finally with #3772 (2 strands): stitch a large fly stitch to outline the cone – if you find this doesn’t cover your lines or doesn’t outline the criss cross section neatly then just stitch 2 straight stitches either side.

Now your cones are complete you can stitch the ice cream topping…

Final Details…

  • #3772 (1 strand): straight stitch little sprinkles on the #712.
  • #3772 (1 strand): Trellis stitch the wafer & back stitch around edge.
  • #553: Back Stitch block outer edge.

Your 2 blocks for this week are complete…
