Welcome to the ‘Escape to Africa’ Stitch A Long
This Stitch A Long is taking place for 12 weeks on the Stitchdoodles blog – Starting Wednesday 31st May 2023 and finishing on Wednesday 16th August 2023.
Each Wednesday during the SAL – a new tutorial will be published on the blog with all the information you need to complete a part of the Escape to Africa Pattern.
If you are not familiar with a Stitchdoodles SAL and this is all new to you and you would like to join in, please go to this page to get all the information.
Do you need help with any of the stitches?
A Stitch A Long doesn’t provide you with the step by step instructions for the stitches themselves – it is a tutorial on how to stitch the pattern design – colours, techniques and stitches used etc. I will link to a ‘How to’ for certain stitches where I can, if you need further guidance, please take a look here …

Stitching Week 9…
There are several blocks this week which are quite small and simple so it should be a nice easy bit of stitching after last weeks Cheetah.
To start with, we will stitch the 3 foliage blocks in the top right corner of the design.
Use 2 strands unless stated otherwise

Leaf 1 (directly above the flamingo)
Put 1 strand each of colours #907 and #986 in the needle so you are stitching with 2 strands.
Fishbone stitch the leaves and back stitch the stem.

Leaf 2
Using colours #986 and #907, satin stitch alternating blocks of colour on each side of the leaf and then #907: Back stitch the stem.

Flower
Stitch in the following order…
#725: Satin stitch the petals that are the furthest back behind the star shape
#3866: Satin stitch the star petals
#718 (1 strand): stitch 2 straight stitches on the base of each star petal
#907: French Knots to fill centre

Stitching the Tortoise
You will need the following colours…
#632, #3782, #3866, #310

#632: Split stitch all the outlines…

#3782: Split stitch to fill the larger shell areas and satin stitch the smaller ones…

#3866: Satin stitch the under shell spaces in between the legs.
#632: Split stitch to fill the legs and head
#310: Single French Knot for the eye.

Week 9 is complete!
Make sure you show off your latest additions to the design in the Happy Stitching FB Group or on Instagram with #stitchdoodlesembroidery.
If you need help along the way just ask in the FB group as there are lots of lovely people stitching along with you who can offer lots of advice and support if needed.
Week 10 is on the blog Wednesday 2nd August… See you then
Happy Stitching!
