Welcome to the ‘Escape to Africa’ Stitch A Long
This Stitch A Long is taking place for 12 weeks on the Stitchdoodles blog – Starting Wednesday 31st May 2023 and finishing on Wednesday 16th August 2023.
Each Wednesday during the SAL – a new tutorial will be published on the blog with all the information you need to complete a part of the Escape to Africa Pattern.
If you are not familiar with a Stitchdoodles SAL and this is all new to you and you would like to join in, please go to this page to get all the information.
Do you need help with any of the stitches?
A Stitch A Long doesn’t provide you with the step by step instructions for the stitches themselves – it is a tutorial on how to stitch the pattern design – colours, techniques and stitches used etc. I will link to a ‘How to’ for certain stitches where I can, if you need further guidance, please take a look here …
Stitching Week 11…
Three more blocks this week… Lizard, Beetle & Leaf
Lizard and Sun Block
Stitching the Sun
You will need the following colours… #725, #946, #347
Use 2 strands unless stated otherwise
Start by stitching the centre circle of the sun…
#347: Split stitch around the outer edge of the circle and then come inwards and stitch another 2 rows to give a thicker line.
#946: Split stitch the orange section as shown in the photo with 2 rows.
#725: Split stitch the remaining centre area of the circle.
For the sun rays…
#725: Fly stitch the edges of the Rays, don’t pull the anchor stitch too tight as you want it to be more of a curve on the end than a point.
#946 (1 strand): Fly stitch each ray just inside the outer yellow.
#347 (1 strand): Straight stitch inside the orange fly stitch to complete.
Stitching the Lizard
You will need the following colours… #725, #905, #310
Use 2 strands unless stated otherwise.
#905 (1 strand): split stitch the head leaving a small gap for the yellow spot.
#905 (1 strand): Tiny chain stitch the toes.
#905 (1 strand): Split stitch the body stripes and chain stitch the toes to complete the green of the Lizard…
#725: Split stitch the yellow stripes
#310: Straight stitch the eyes
#310 (1 strand): Back stitch the legs and antennae and fill the top most section of the head with satin stitch.
#312: Satin stitch the body of the beetles shell in 2 sections so there is a dividing line down the centre.
#310: Satin stitch the top of the shell and then stitch 1 long stitch down the centre of the blue shell to complete.
#986: Satin stitch the leaves and back stitch the stem.
